Getting a business website up and running is the easy part, well, comparatively easy.
But if your want it to do something meaningful to your business, there are some important rules that will get results.
Do your homework. Know your market and know it intimately. Is it predominantly male? Female? Are they married? Kids? What’s their income?
Do your keyword research. Keyword research lets to focus on the words and phrases that are important to your target market. If you don’t know how, hire someone who can. It can mean the difference between mediocre performance and a valuable tool that works for your business.
Make your content satisfy your visitors information needs. Are they looking for pricing? Are they looking for ideas and suggestions? Are they looking for post-sales information? Whatever it is, if you want your site to be successful, give them a reason to come back and want to stay a little longer.
Configure Google Analytics and link it to your Google Website Optimizer. Then, monitor the stats. You’ll learn a lot about what’s working and what isn’t and you can use that knowledge to further tune the site.
Set a high target for your site and do whatever is needed to reach it.
